Artificial Intelligence or AI is a process, where computers and other machines try to match or simulate human intelligence . These processes include the art of data acquisition or simple learning and basic reasoning in which simply rules are used to reach conclusions. Self-correction or learning by experience, which links all of these processes together. Over the last few years, intelligent technology systems like Amazons Echo range have transformed people homes. These systems, all use a form of artificial intelligence software that is called Alexa. (Link). The Amazon Echo Range has the ability to connect to other devices in the home or the so call Internet of Things (Iot). (Link1) Google have also designed and developed there own range smart home devices including Google Home, which can also connected with multiple smart devices ( Link2).
The Internet of things or smart technologies can be anything from domestic cameras, fridges, televisions, building management systems, the list goes on. (Link) All of these devices have been designed and built with internet connectivity. All, Internet of thing devices can communicate and interact with others similar devices over the Internet plus they can be remotely monitored and controlled. It’s estimated that there will be over 50 billion such connected devices by 2020, which is pretty good, considering the world population is just under 8 billion people.
Artificial Intelligence has the ability to transform how we do business globally, as it will touch every part of society. It’s commonly known that there are many benefits with Artificial Intelligence, but there are also some dangers including when Artificial Intelligence is programmed to do something, which could be hazardous to globally society. There is also a risk, that Artificial Intelligence could potentially develop a destructive process in the pursuit of trying to achieve its target goal. (Link)
Artificial intelligence can also be used in security systems especially in facial recognition cameras, which are designed to secure specific area and identify target individuals. But these systems also need source information in the form of photographs to make the facial recognition software work effectively. But it’s this source information, which can cause issues especially how and where it’s being stored and it’s this process which is becoming controversial. (Link1, Link2)
Artificial Intelligence is here to stay and it’s starting to find its ways into all type of technologies which will end up in the home or in business. Global logistics operations can actually benefit from Artificial Intelligence systems. Transport planning and vehicle onboard navigation systems can be linked with real time situational awareness systems and other incident detection systems (Link). This systems are designed to help manage traffic flows, this reducing shipment delays and reducing vehicle emissions. Artificial Intelligence can actually enhance all areas of the global supply chain allowing it to benefit everyone with better shipment visibility and product availability.
